What are catalytic converters, and why do I need them?

So, long story short:

The catalytic converters play an important role in terms of removing dangerous and toxic composites from the exhaust gases. Thorugh a process the gases will become harmless, and, in other words, less dangerous for both your health and the environment.

What about the downsides?

Some say that the catalytic converters reduce performance; that’s half true. As a matter of fact, it has been shown that due to restricting the otherwise free flow of the exhaust gases, they may impact negatively the overall performance of the engine. However tests show that for instance, an old catalytic converter can reduce performance up to 3%, and when it comes to the newest models, the percentual lower to something close to 1%. As you can see having them in your exhaust may actually downgrade a little bit the performance, but the pros they give, in our opinion, outnumber greatly the cons: 1% downgrade is often imperceptible and you will barely notice it.
